Fieldwork

History:

Fieldwork began in July 2008 with the installation Spec-u-late (Chris Osler).  Fieldwork aims to present site-specific art installations in a field in Eastern Ontario for passers-by to stumble upon, discover, journey to, and explore.  A new installation is created each season by one of the 'fieldworkers' (artists) - each aiming to address the variety of ways that we may relate to the space - conceptually, spiritually, formally, economically, playfully, etc.

The Fieldworkers are:

Chris Osler (Summer 2008)

Chris Osler is a Photographer and Community Developer currently living and working in Ottawa, Ontario.  His photography work has included contracts for CIDA and CUSO, as well as many independent photo essays having to do with socio-political issues. Chris has a long standing interest in using art practices for social change.

Chris Grosset (Autumn 2008)

Chris Grosset is a landscape architect who works in arctic environments, predominantly in Nunavut.  Chris completed his BA at the University of Toronto in fine art, english and geography; then completed his Masters in Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph.  His sculptures invite people to interact with the work, and he enjoys making art that references the environment and our relationship with nature.

Susie Osler (Winter 2008/09)

Susie Osler lives and works on an old farm in Eastern Ontario.  She graduated with a BFA from the Emily Carr Institute for Art and Design in 1999 and currently works primarily in ceramics.  Her work has been exhibited and collected internationally.  Gardens, garden ornament, the fecundity of nature, and delight are predominant threads running through her work. Her interest in public art, particularly for rural spaces, led to the inception of Fieldwork which is located in one of her fields.   www.susieosler.com

Erin Robertson (Spring 2009)

Erin Robertson is a sculptor and painter who explores figurative and environmental themes through the inventive use of a wide variety of materials, including oils, acrylics, resins, ceramics, papier-maché, concrete, metal and textiles. Her art is marked by its whimsical and subversive play on everyday idioms, domesticity, urban landscapes and mythology. Her recent works include the “Response” series—paintings in oil and resin of nighttime emergency scenarios—and “Signs of Life,”  a combination of mixed-media sculpture and paintings drawing on imagery ranging from sheep to hydro fields.

Erin studied Fine Art at York University in Toronto and at Atelier Gilbert Diabold in Paris. She is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Guelph University. Her work is shown in private and public galleries and is widely collected in Canada and abroad.
